Change, and not the pocket kind.

Actions have consequences. No matter what you do, everything has a consequence. I feel like in today's society, people tend to give the word "consequence" a negative condensation. But this simply isn't the case. Consequences for your actions can be a good thing, if your actions are positive, typically your consequence is positive as well. You may be asking yourself, "Nia, what does this have to do with change?" I'm glad you asked. Every day we make decisions. We decide to get up, make our beds, eat breakfast, drink water, work out, take a shower, etc. Often we get into a routine, where we begin to do the same thing over and over again. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, but personally, when I get into a routine I tend to make it a bad thing. And sometimes you need to change.
I'm going to be completely honest with you. I do not like change. If I could eat the same thing every day, do the same thing every day, and live in the same place every year, I probably would. But that's not an option. Yet rather than being salty about it, I learned to adapt. And I would love to share with you how I changed my perspective to enjoy something that I previously disliked.
I move almost every year, without fail. And as much as I love to travel, that's a lot of change. I've watched friends come and go, switched schools, dealt with remembering new addresses, learning how to get "home", and so much more. And honestly, I hated moving so much at first. Like when I first got into a new house, in a new town, and I had no one to hang out with. It's not a fun feeling, but rather than being upset, I take a step back and realize that this season of life won't last forever, in fact, it probably won't last more than a couple of months. What's important is to look for the end goal. You can't go back and change anything you've done in the past, yet you can affect what you do in the future. This is why change is so important, right now.
Even though moving was hard for me, I learned to overcome this obstacle. To do so, I had to change my perspective. Rather than sitting and thinking about how much I didn't want to be in the situation, I was in I had to start thinking about a bigger goal. I often joke with my friends that they sit and say, "Woe is me, my life sucks." But recently I noticed myself in that phrase. I lost motivation to do the things I enjoy, but I recognized this and decided to make a change. Kicking myself out of a routine I've been in for several months. This is not an easy feat, but I know that I will be thankful for the change later down the road.
Focusing on a goal is important. We live in a world of instant gratification, you send a text message and receive a response almost instantly, you place food in the microwave and watch it heat up, in a matter of seconds. Everything seems to be instant. From instant ramen to a pressure cooker, everything we do in life seems to be accomplished in a matter of seconds. But some changes take time, and that's a good thing. Every change that you make in life is going to have consequences. So my question to you is this; What changes are you making in your life right now, and are the consequences of those changes good or bad?
Did you enjoy this blog post? I would love to know! Send me a message with your thoughts and I will do my best to get back to you!
I'll write again soon,
Nia
